An email address that translated as ‘We have come to slaughter’ was used to buy chemicals for the Manchester Arena bomb on Amazon, a court heard today.

Hashem Abedi, the brother of the bomber whose explosives were detonated in a deadly blast in May 2017,
was linked to the address, the Old Bailey was told.

Abedi allegedly helped build the bomb which killed
his older brother, Salman, and 22 others in the foyer outside the arena after a
concert by pop star Ariana Grande.

The Old Bailey was told that a Gmail address bedab7jeana@gmail.com was set
up to buy hydrogen peroxide, a vital ingredient for the TATP explosives,
on March 20, 2017.

The email, translated from the Arabic, read: ‘To slaughter we have come’ or ‘We have come to slaughter’, Duncan Penny QC, prosecuting, told the court. 

Hashem Abedi, 22, is on trial accused of helping his brother to assemble chemicals and materials to build TATP explosives
which were detonated in Manchester on May 22, 2017

Hashem Abedi’s temporary phone was in the same area, 20 minutes before the publicly
available Wifi was used at Hulme Market in Manchester to
create the email address.

June 30 (Reuters) – Hong Kong stocks slipped on Wednesday, as energy and IT firms retreated after subdued Chinese factory activity
data, but they posted quarterly gains.

** At the close of trade, the Hang Seng index was down 166.15 points or 0.57%,
at 28,827.95. The Hang Seng China Enterprises index fell 0.87% to
10,663.39.

** The sub-index of the Hang Seng tracking energy shares dipped
0.9%, while the IT sector dipped 0.82%, the financial sector ended 0.3% lower and the property sector dipped 1.02%.

** The top gainer on the Hang Seng was Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, which gained 4.37%,
while the biggest loser was Hengan International

** Growth in China’s June factory activity dipped to a four-month low on higher raw

Dec 20 (Reuters) – Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) board chairman Tom Ilube said on Friday he was stepping down, after it emerged that huge bonuses were paid to CEO Bill Sweeney and other executives despite the English governing body posting a record operating loss.

The RFU Council has set up an immediate review into the
circumstances surrounding the bonuses, after it was shown that Sweeney was paid
a total of 1.1 million pounds ($1.4 million) in the last accounting year.

As far as turning points go, it is a significant one.

In 2004, Blair Walsh was a soccer player, hurtling up and down the right wing for his High School in Boca Raton, Florida.

But with a booming right foot, team-mate Brett Swenson suggested he should
have a punt at booting a pigskin. The rest, as they
say, is history.

‘So I tried it. I instantly felt good at it and I kind of liked
it a lot and decided I could possibly take it all the way to
the highest level,’ Walsh says as he prepares for
his third season in the NFL.

‘I had to learn the technique of course but it was more mental
than anything. Just mentally prepare yourself just for
the one scenario.

possibly on the game whereas kicking is more of a hey, you go
out there, you kick, you might not see it again and that’s just how it is.
Once you get used to that it’s fun.’

As followers of his Twitter page will attest, as well as watching
the fortunes of the Miami Heat and assorted golf tournaments, he still keeps a
close eye on the round ball.

And with the USA drawn in an unenviable World Cup group alongside Germany, Portugal and Ghana, the 24-year-old was realistic about the chances of progression.

‘I think we have the talent to make it an interesting group but

‘He is just a very serious person yet he knows how to
have fun and keep us light-hearted. But when it’s business time

‘I’m just trying to get better at trying to manage the weather conditions outside,’ said Walsh of the
conditions he will face. ‘I’ve been a tamed housecoat for the
past couple of years and you’ve got to grow up and go outside.

It should be fun. We’ve been down there a couple of times in practice
already to let us know what it’s all about.

‘We’ve had some good practice of playing in the
cold weather in the last couple of years: we had a game in Green Bay, that was in the mid teens and we played in a complete blizzard in Baltimore so we’ve had some good quality work in the

the open conditions and the wind rather than the cold.’

The Vikings won their first game of last season with a memorable
win over the Steelers in week five at Wembley (‘I loved the London trip – I’m kind of sad we’re not going back there this year,
‘ Walsh says), but despite a foreboding first five games, he can’t wait
to boot up for the curtain-raiser against the Rams.

‘St Louis were one of the teams that were looking at me when I came out of Georgia
and it’s always fun to play against those teams that were
giving you a look. We gave a good showing against them in 2012, so I’m sure that they’re going to give it their
best shot. We’ll be all jacked up and ready
to go for it.’

For Andrew Nembhard, it’s an embarrassment of riches.

On any given possession, the Gonzaga point guard can throw the ball
down low to Drew Timme, the reigning Karl Malone Award winner as the nation’s top power forward (and
a finalist this season for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award as the top center) or 7-foot
freshman phenom Chet Holmgren, a Malone finalist this year.

Gonzaga can clinch its 10th consecutive regular-season WCC championship with a

Nembhard’s shot wasn’t falling Wednesday — he made just 1 of 8
from the field while scoring just 4 points — in Gonzaga’s 86-66 victory at Pepperdine.
So, he dished out a career-high 14 assists while handling a tough
defensive assignment against the Waves’ Houston Mallette, who finished
with 25 points.

“That’s what he does, man,” Gonzaga coach Mark Few said.
“He’s an unbelievable passer, just a wizard in the ball screens. So we trust him, he’ll make the right read and he was making all the different reads and that’s kind of who he is.”

The 14 assists matched the second-most in Zags history — Joel Ayayi
last season — and was two shy of the record set by Blake

Nembhard, whose previous high of 13 assists came against Long Beach State in 2019 while he was still at Florida,
said he just tries to stay with the basics.

“I think I was just trying to keep it simple of reading the defense, understanding what their coverages were and then just executing the game plan,” Nembhard said.
“I think I did that at a pretty high level. … They were kind of pressuring me with two guys. Just reading the defense and keeping it simple.”

That worked, as Timme scored 19 points and Holmgren added 18 points with 17 rebounds as
the Zags won their 15th consecutive game and are a victory away from their 21st
conference regular-season championship in Few’s 23 seasons.

Few pointed out that Nembhard’s command of the game was not unusual
for him.

“UCLA and some other huge games,” said Few, referring
to Nembhard’s 24 points and six assists in an 83-63 victory over the then-No.
2 Bruins on Nov. 23 in Las Vegas. He also had 22 points and 12 assists against BYU on in a
90-57 rout on Feb. 5.

“Obviously, you can see how valuable he is to us. Then he was chasing Mallette around who’s a heckuva player and has a ton of freedom and that’s a really, really hard guard.”

Santa Clara (18-9, 8-4) is in third place in the conference after Thursday’s 84-80 victory at Loyola

five teams will embark on an epic, adrenaline filled and often frustrating journey which sees them forced to travel by land and rail in a bid to get to Singapore first and win a cash

one-way airfare to Singapore, the duos will compete to win £20,000.

A fascinating new series will follow five teams who
are competing to reach Singapore without the use of modern technology and limited cash- and without flying.

Meanwhile Natalie and Shameema, best friends since school, are determined to save
money and adopt a very focused strategy to do just that.

‘My two daughters are growing into strong independent woman and it’s almost like for the first time someone
has said to me, you don’t have to be responsible…
and that feels quite nice.

‘People are going to want to do nice things for us because we are kind people,’ she laughs optimistically – and is
proven right, when later on in the episode the pair charm
a woman at a petrol station into offering to buy their tickets to Dover.

‘I could finish all this and she could be in the same situation so everyone
is telling me to carry on, so that’s what we will do.’

Darron and son Alex eventually find themselves stranded in Belgrade – is it all over for them?

‘I feel helpless in the situation with my mum, she would be the most proud person if we won.’

As the first day draws to a close, father and son, Darron and Alex have yet to leave London – they’re patiently waiting for
an overnight coach to Germany, aiming to leap-frog their fellow competitors and get ahead of the pack in the dash to Delphi.

After a very uncomfortable journey, they find their determination paid off
– they arrived in Dusseldorf 250 miles closer to Delphi than the rest of the
competitors. 

‘Most people would go from a to b on a plane. But then they
miss all this,’ says Darron.

But his enthusiasm is somewhat dampened when the pair
find themselves stranded in Belgrade.  

 Race Across the World begins tonight on BBC2 at 9pm.
